So, now that we have comments again, what song ( or songs) always take you back to a specific moment in your life? Here are two from me:
The first time I heard this song, I was headed back to high school after lunch, sitting in the back of my friend’s 67 Chevelle, doing about 65 in a 45 with 5 people in the car. Just a bunch of idiot teenagers doing what idiot teenagers do. The song just feels perfect for fast driving to me, and it immediately became my favorite song at the time. I think that’s why it stuck.
This one takes me back to sitting in my 72 Monte Carlo, kissing a girl that I had a huge crush on for the first time. We were singing along to the song as we kissed basically, too. Also good times!

just a perfect moment in time.

This, from a group who some love to hate:
Takes me back to the fall of 1999, student days, going to the popular local dive bar on Thursday nights, meeting friends and seeing people. Places and people who you never really appreciated when you were close, and they are all now long out of your life , like that part of youth itself. JG Ballard claimed nostalgia is the most detestable emotion, and I sometimes work to avoid it, but rarely succeed.
The song itself is also eerily prescient, as some have said, kind of about itself in the future from the past.
And going back much further:
I remember listening to this via a boombox on the patio of my grandparents house, sitting at a picnic table maybe with my mom there with me . In 1983 my family moved to a new house, and while things were being finished, we visited my grandparents. My mom loved this song and had the tape, I remember this clearly even though I was a little kid.

Nice that it’s something you share with your wife!
And I saw that it was STP and expected it to be Interstate Love Song at first- but Big Empty makes sense for the location.

1) George Thorogood - Gear Jammer: Summer of 1986, my pops and I roadtripped from Denver, CO to Manistee Michigan. I was already a straight-up metalhead by then, but I grew up on the blues and classic rock. My dad LOVED George, and the slide guitar on that song was epic. EVERY time I drive long distance, that song is on the playlist and immediately takes me back to relating to my dad with music despite my metalhead, anti-authority teenage assholery...
2) Agnostic Front - Crucified: Summer of 1990 , I had a 1977 Cutlass Supreme Brougham, loved that car, but that Agnostic Front Tape was stuck in the cassette player so it was our soundtrack all summer... . My angry friends and I spent the whole summer brawling with the jocks from our school, seemed like every week we ran into those goof balls at Taco Bell or the mall, and it was on. To this day, every time I hear that song my fight or flight response gets a little fritzy... Funny side note: Roger Miret lives here in Phoenix, see him around now and then, super cool dude, just a regular dude who just happens be a founding father of the hardcore scene.
3) Geto Boys - Assassins: Weirdly enough, heard this for the first time sitting in my friend’s Dodge Omni watching an airshow in 1991, and immediately exclaimed “These dudes are basically Slayer, but rappers!” Super offensive, over the top 5th Ward rap... Still love this album.

Me too, at least in a tolerate-it way, and I like that song. But a lot of it is sentimentality. Although really , I don’t want to go back to that time.

Sentimentality leads to recall the good moments, and forget that there were some not so great moments, too.
I have some fond memories of those days, but overall I wouldn’t go back.

All great stuff - - I used to listen to Thorogood all the time back in the ‘80s.
And I remember those days when a tape would get stuck, or you’d end up driving around for a while with only 1 tape in the car, so you’d be listening to the same few songs over and over...

I still freaking love that song, and that story dates back to 1984. And I remember a ridiculous amount of detail about that Chevelle, despite the fact that it was *not* mine. It was bought new by his parents, and only had 60k on it, but it was rusted to shit. Not long after getting it, he backed into a shopping mall light stanchion at about 30 mph (alcohol might have been involved...) so the trunk was pushed in and wouldn’t shut. It was held down with twine and would bounce up and down 2-3x after hitting any bump at all (school parking lot speed bumps were hilarious).
Brown, black vinyl roof, black bench interior, 283/PG, and a crappy tape player hanging off the bottom of the dash - good times!!

Nice -and is that the ‘66 you still own? This one is a dead ringer, except the car had full wheel covers, rust holes everywhere, and was ‘stanced’ ie- springs were shot

Currently a snowbank, it sleeps. Always plated, as technically, it’s my regular-ass car. (must have a regular-ass car insured to take advantage of basically-free antique plates. )
